This antique corbel was originally part of an architectural structure in Rajasthan, carved to support projecting roofs and balconies on haveli homes. Hand carved from solid teak, the form features a flowing peacock and floral motif worked directly into the wood by skilled artisans, where ornament and structure were closely connected.
The surface carries a naturally bleached finish shaped by age and exposure, revealing grain, tool marks, and softened edges. Cracks and blemishes remain visible, offering a clear record of the corbel’s original use rather than obscuring its history. Now mounted on a custom iron stand, the piece has been repurposed as a vertical sculptural object.
