Rather than relying on a colored exterior glaze, the Mezcal Cup develops its warm, earthen surface directly in the kiln. A carefully balanced mixture of high-temperature ceramic paste and local Mexican clay responds to the intensity of the fire, creating tones that can move from pale sand and warm ochre to deeper terracotta.

Made in Mexico by a women-led ceramic studio drawing from the pottery traditions of Guanajuato and Jalisco, each compact cup is glazed only on the inside. The exposed exterior preserves the tactile quality of the clay while the smooth interior holds a 3.4-ounce pour.

Color Born in the Kiln

Clay as Pigment: Different earths and clays are blended into the ceramic body to create color without covering the exterior in a colored glaze.
Direct Contact with Fire: Heat alters the intensity and tone of the material as it fires, producing natural shifts from one cup to another.
Textural Exterior: Leaving the outside unglazed allows the raw character and fine horizontal ridges of the ceramic surface to remain visible.
Glazed Interior: A smooth inner glaze creates a deliberate contrast with the cup’s matte, earthen exterior.

Local Terracotta Clay: Thirty percent of the composition comes from locally sourced clay, connecting the finished cup to the earth from which it was made.
